M&A Coaches Ballyragget (Proprietor Michael Dowling) who are the second largest employer in the town were delighted with this unique contract from the NTA.  The rewarding of this contract is the first time a private company is being paid a subsidy by the National Transport Authority.

BALLYRAGGET SCOUT GROUP NEWS - If your child is interested in joining Beavers, Cubs or Scouts in September 2013 call down to the C.Y.M.S. Hall, Bridge Street any Monday night between 7 – 8pm or ring Edel on 087 – 4188260. On a recent to Castlecomer Discovery Park was a great success. Ballyragget in conjunction with Thomastown Scout group hosted a “backwoods day”.We are very proud to announce that Sinead Walsh a Ballyragget Cub Scout has recently achieved her Chief Scout Award. Sinead put in major effort in order to achieve this award and she has the honour of being the first Cub Scout in Carlow/Kilkenny to receive this award – Well done to Sinead!

BALLYRAGGET PLAYGROUP - The children from Ballyragget Playgroup and Montessori had an opportunity to be farmers in our Playgroup recently- thanks to a visit from Patrick Murphy’s dad P.J. We thank PJ most sincerely for making the visit so enjoyable. The boys and girls, ranging in age from three to five years, climbed into the cab of the tractor, sounded the horn and turned on the indicators in order to create a real life experience driving a tractor. This visit was part of our on-going engagement with ‘Aistear’- the Early Childhood Curriculum framework, facilitated by Early Childhood Ireland and also part of our formal training with Siolta (meaning seeds)- the National Quality framework for Early Childhood education in Ireland. BALLYOUSKILL ICA - Congratulations to Ballyouskill ICA on winning two cups at the recent Federation Meeting in Inistioge. The Guild won the Mary O’Shea Cup for crafts and another cup for Produce – well done to all concerned.

 NAOMH BRID CAMOGIE CLUB - Don’t forget to visit the cake sale at Glenvale (Costcutters), on Saturday, May 11th next, starting at 10 am. This is an important fundraiser for the club and we trust that our parishioners will support us.

Training continues at the GAA pitch, on Tuesdays, from 6.15 pm to 7.15 pm. Naomh Brid hosted an Under 10 blitz on Saturday, May 4th with Conahy, Clara and Emeralds also participating. The occasion was very enjoyable for all of the players .The Naomh Brid girls showed us the skills, which they have been practicing and performed well in all of their games.  Our squad was Maeve Lennon, Sienna Gunner, Nikita Kelly, Ellie Smith, Leanne Ryan, Katelyn Cummins, Ciara Mc Donald, Lara Dowling, Emma Glennon, Nessa Morrissey, Eimear Kavanagh, Miriam Phelan, and Catherine Purcell.

 Thanks to everyone who helped and ensured that the day ran smoothly. The Under 14 team plays their opening game of the League, in Ballyragget, on Wednesday May 8th and we will have a report in next week’s notes.

free time to volunteer and coach our young hurlers and footballers.
GO GAMES - St. Patrick’s Under 10’s team hosted Danesfort last Saturday morning. They have a bye next weekend. The Go games series of matches are non competitive games which allow our young hurlers and footballers experience Gaelic Games and to take pride in their club jersey. With continuing strong encouragement from Parents and Mentors alike we can look forward to great future of club players. Our Under 8 team play in the Ossory Diocesan hurling Blitz in St. Kieran’s College next Saturday. Full details can be found the sports section of this Newspaper. Our minor Hurlers take on Dicksboro B Team in Palmerstown tonight at 7pm in the League. With Two wins out of three this League competition is all to play for. The under 16 team face Young Irelands in Gowran in the League this Friday at 7.30pm. Our Under 14 team are up against Conahy Shamrocks next Monday night in Jenkinstown at 7.30pm in round 2 of the Hurling League. Please sponsor Aileen McInerney at the Post office who will participate In this year’s Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on June 3rd.Aileen will run for St. Patricks GAA Bord na nOG section and help support our underage players in
the club. Sponsorship cards are now available in the Post office. We are eternally grateful for her kind consideration.



The winner of the in house draw on Friday 3rd May was Ian Gannon €70 the Jackpot spin was Gerry Doyle, C/O Wheel Inn who won €100 and the seller’s prize of €25 was won by the Wheel Inn. Next week’s Jackpot is €3,650 and is in Ronan’s Bar. Be in to win.

Brookville’s cup run continued with a well deserved win against Premier league opposition Fort rangers in Wallslough last Sunday morning A goal, nodded in at the back post by john Doheny from a wicked in swinging corner by Jonny Kavanagh put the visitors ahead on 20mins, The lead wasn’t to last long as 3 minutes later when a loose ball from a Fort free kick was finished to the net after J.J. O’Sullivan had initially saved. 1-1 it stayed until half time but Brookville were dealt a blow with the loss of Billy Irwin with a rib injury before the break. After absorbing early Fort second half pressure, Brookville broke on 57 mins following a flowing move Alan Ruth buried a half volley from 18 yards to the bottom corner of the Fort net. John Doheny with 10 mins remaining put Brookville 3-1 up on 82 mins with a fantastic strike from 25 yards. 3 mins into stoppage time Fort pulled one back from the spot, but Brookville held out. They now play Callan, last year’s winners next Sun 12pm in Derdimus park. FAMILY MASS - All parishioners are invited to attend a Family Mass in Ballyragget Church on Sunday 26th May at 10am. We would like to see all families represented at this significant Parish Sunday Celebration. In particular if your child has received the sacraments of Baptism, Communion or Confirmation in the last year please bring them along as a valued member of our faith community. During the Mass we will be remembering all of our students who will be sitting exams in the coming weeks and we would encourage these young people to join with us as together we pray for all our family needs and intentions. We look forward to this very special parish gathering.
