A group of residents in the village of Kells have come out onto the streets, this morning, to prevent a communications mast being erected.
The residents have held several meetings in recent weeks and say they do not want the mast, being erected by Eircom Ltd. “We are the custodians of our village and its 12th Century Priory, that is the oldest monastic settlement in Europe. We have an obligation to look after our historic past and also the health of our young folk for future generations to come,” said a community spokesperson. More as this story develops...

It should be noted that not all residents of Kells are opposed to the mast and say the roll out of telecommunications infrastructure is critical to support sustainable economic development in rural Ireland.
