Despite a disrupted build-up, three-time All-Ireland with Kilkenny and Tullogher Rosbercon clubman, Walter Walsh is looking forward to the start of the Michael Lyng Motors Senior Hurling Championship, with the former Kilkenny star hopeful his side can hit the ground running despite a number of players only recently returning to the panel. The South Kilkenny men begin their campaign against St Martin’s in St John’s Park at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.

“I think like a lot of clubs maybe we’re slow to get going, we’re getting a few lads back from injuries, holidays and even a few lads back from America as well,” Walsh told Kilkenny People Sport at the launch of the competition.

“You’d be looking forward to it but we’ll see where we’re at when we play St Martin’s,” he added.

The former Kilkenny forward turned 35 earlier this year but since turning his attention firmly to the club game, he has proven age is just a number.

“You’re always looking forward to the next game, it doesn’t matter what you’ve achieved or what you haven’t, you always look forward. That’s my approach to it and hopefully I can stay away from injuries this year as I missed a bit of last year.”
