Kilkenny sports club launch plans to construct new all-weather pitch

Kilkenny RFC have launched a campaign to build an all-weather pitch
Kilkenny RFC has launched a significant fundraising campaign, with the club hoping to build an all-weather pitch that will support local rugby for years to come.
According to a club spokesperson, the need for the new facility is ‘especially clear’ during the winter months, when heavy rain can leave grass pitches wet, muddy and slippery.
“Conditions can make training difficult or unsuitable, disrupting sessions and sometimes requiring teams to travel to hire other Astro facilities. That brings extra cost, travel and planning for players, coaches and families,” a Kilkenny RFC spokesperson said.
“A pitch at home would offer a dependable training space in all seasons. The club hopes it will benefit players across its teams, from younger age groups through to adult rugby, including its girls' and women's teams and its inclusive Rugby for All programme.
“For the club, the project is about more than solving a winter problem. It is an investment in the future of Kilkenny rugby: creating more opportunities for local people to play, supporting teams as they grow and building a lasting facility for the wider community,” they continued.
To help raise funds, Kilkenny RFC is running a raffle for a two-week trip for two to the Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia. The package is valued at €20,000 and includes flights, accommodation, breakfast, match tickets, transfers, excursions and support from a Killester Travel representative. The itinerary includes stays in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Sydney.
