Mayor of Kilkenny David Fitzgerald has hosted a reception at City Hall for new Bishop of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory, Adrian Wilkinson, attended by friends and well wishers.

From Enniscorthy in Co Wexford, Bishop Wilkinson was born in 1968 and was ordained in 1994. He was consecrated on October 30 last year and enthroned in each of his diocese’s six cathedrals this year.

He previously served as Curate in Douglas Union with Frankfield, in the Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross (1994–1997), as Rector of Dunboyne Union, in the Diocese of Meath and Kildare (1997–2002), during which time he was also Chaplain at NUI Maynooth, and a Minor Canon in the Chapter of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin.

Bishop Wilkinson is married to Jacqui, who is a lecturer in teacher education at Dublin City University, and they have three grown–up children – two sons and a daughter.
