The Kilkenny/Carlow Branch of the Irish Science Teachers' Association (ISTA) hosted the ISTA Senior Science Quiz in SETU Carlow on Thursday November 16.
The quiz was held in 14 locations nationwide as part of Science Week.
16 teams from eight schools in counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois and Kildare competed with prizes for the top three teams.
A team from CBS Kilkenny claimed top spot, with teams from Kilkenny College claiming 2nd and 3rd place.
The top two placed teams now go forward to compete in the national final in Trinity College, Dublin, on December 2.
As well as cash prizes, each of the students from CBS Kilkenny will receive a Studyclix Boost subscription for both Maths and Biology (worth €100).
For Science Week the ISTA also launched a national photograph competition for secondary school students on the theme ‘Science Changing Lives’.
The winning student will receive an iPad with the winning teacher receiving a visualiser for use in the classroom.
There are also cash prizes.
This competition closes on December 15.
The competitions are sponsored by Biopharmachem Ireland, IBEC and Laboratory Apprenticeship, IBEC respectively.
