Forty policemen were confronted by a few hundred people in Carrickshock, County Kilkenny, protesting against the collection of tithes.
Sixteen policemen are killed and seven were wounded and three locals lost their lives.
At the commemoration event an oration was given by Helen Irish after Fr Liam Cassin said a nice few words and prayers.
The first Carrickshock Commeration Committee was set up in 1923 to raise funds for the High Cross Monument which was erected in 1924.
