There was huge excitement for the pupils of Moneenroe National School as Kilkenny and All-Star full back Huw Lawlor visited recently to present medals to the girls’ football team.

The successful girls added to their Roinn A success in 2022 to pick up another schools county medal toward the end of last year. The girls recorded good wins over St John of God, Presentation primary school and Carrickshock schools on their way to reaching the final. They then defeated a very good Mullinavat side to achieve county success on a scoreline of 4-5 to 0-3.

The girls made huge progress throughout the year and credit must go to the Moneenroe NS staff for all their hard work training the team — Gary Kelly, Michael Mckeogh, Kevin Maher and Kathleen Connolly.

After the medal presentation, Huw spoke to the children about their success and encouraged the children to continue practicing their skills. The children were in awe of their sporting hero as he answered their many questions and also gave the children an insight into his training and nutrition habits.

The children were further treated to another surprise as Huw brought his 2023 All-Star award with him.

The students posed for pictures with the award and all had an opportunity to hold the All -Star. The future is surely bright in Moneenroe NS.
