Franaldo Kickathon raises large sum of money for Kilkenny charity

Local auctioneer Fran Grincell has raised an impressive €29,640 for Kilkenny based cancer charity, Cois Nore.

Each year Fran, or as he's been christened by his supporters, 'Franaldo', has kicked a ball against a wall for 12 nights as part of his Kickathon initiative.

The 12 night football extravaganza saw huge numbers of the Kilkenny public join Fran to show their support for the cause through finance and encouragement as he dawned his football gear and braved the winter elements each evening for 90 minutes.

On Wednesday, the generosity of the local community shun through as their donations throughout the fundraiser were presented to Cois Nore representatives, with a cheque presentation taking place outside their Walkin Street premises.

The past year has been a significant period for the cancer service as they prepare to move to a state of the art new cancer support centre on the Waterford Road in Kilkenny City.
