‘Distinguished country house’ owned by well-known whiskey maker goes back on the market

The Watt family - known as the famous distillery makers behind Tyrconnell whiskey - built the house in 1890

Claragh House in Donegal originally went on the market in 2023 with an asking price of €1.45 million.

The property is back on sale two years on - with an astonishing new asking price of €1.9 million.

The property was bought in 2024 by well-known Dungloe-based hotelier, Pat Boyle.

The Watt family - known as the famous distillery makers behind Tyrconnell whiskey - built the house in 1890.

Andrew Watt is also known for contributing to the industrial development of Rameltown, Donegal, and Derry.

The site and building was then bought by the Davidson family in the 1980s.

The late Victorian property is set on 21 acres of parkland, woodland and river frontage, next to Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way.

The first floor of the house hosts nine double bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The property also boasts a stables, a stone cottage with two bedrooms and manicured gardens on the site.

The listing reads: “Claragh House is a remarkable 19th-century country home occupying an elevated and tranquil setting above the River Leannan, close by to the heritage town of Ramelton.”
