A beautiful but dilapidated Laois two storey farmhouse, begging for careful restoration, is coming up for auction right next to the famous Heywood Gardens in Laois. The idyllic setting is Drimaterril in Ballinakill and the sale includes 33.14 acres of rolling fields, under use for tillage and grazing.

The house is accessed via a little laneway with an established right of way. It has a slate roof and sash windows.

There is also a charming stone outbuilding included in the sale.

It has a private well and an electricity supply.

The property is coming up for auction on Wednesday, March 15 at 3pm, in the Clubhouse Hotel, Patrick Street Kilkenny, unless it is previously sold.

Fitzgerald Auctioneers have put the reserve at €400,000.

"We are instructed to offer this superb residential agricultural holding which includes a dilapidated two storey farmhouse set in a rural location. The property is located 1.5Km from Ballinakill and 0.5 km from Heywood College and gardens.

"The property is accessed via a long-established right of way which leads to the agricultural land and the former dwelling. The land is laid out in various fields which are dual purpose land suitable for both tillage and grazing purposes."

Heywood is also home to a lush woodlands for walkers and the popular Heywood Community School.

Ballinakill village has one of the few public outdoor heated swimming pools in Ireland, fishing lakes and an annual art festival.

In nearby Abbeyleix, John and Patrick Collison have invested millions from their Stripe earnings in a mansion, thousands of acres and a derilict country house in the Abbeyleix estate.
