Abbot of Glenstal makes pilgrimage to Jerpoint Park, Kilkenny

Waiting for Video...

The Abbot of Glenstal made a very special journey to Jerpoint Park, Kilkenny and the tomb of St Nicholas. The Abbot, Mark Patrick Hederman, said Mass in the open air to gathered pilgrims and visitors at the historic site.

For musical accompaniment, famous soloist Noirin Ni Riain sang and played.

Here is a video of the opening of the ceremony, where the Abbot addresses the connection between the Abbey and St Nicholas. He was there as the guest of owners of Jerpoint Park, Joe and Maeve O’Connell. The O’Connells were not expecting a Mass to be said, but a table, some wine and bread was soon provided for the Abbot to perform the remarkable ceremony which entrhalled the small congregation.

See next week’s Kilkenny People for full story, and further videos of the Mass will be on line.
