Vikings and a host of varied musical entertainment have taken over Kilkenny's High Street this afternoon.

Bearded Nordic warriors armed with swords and axes accompanied a stomping percussive performance outside the Credit Union from lunchtime, and now a brass band has set up and is beginning its performance. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the festival atmosphere.

High Street is currently closed to vehicular traffic between noon and 3.30pm. It's business as usual for all shops and businesses on High Street and adjoining streets, and all public and private car parks in the city centre remain fully accessible and open throughout.

High Street is pedestrianised for part of today and Saturday

Other events planned for today and tomorrow include live music under the Tholsel arches, a special dance performance (including a chance for everyone to join in) and activities for children, including an exciting Medieval Mile Treasure Hunt and face painting.
