WATCH: David Fitzgerald humbled after securing Kilkenny City seat

There were scenes of celebration at the count centre in Lyrath Estate on Sunday afternoon, as Cllr David Fitzgerald (FG) was successfully elected on the first count for Kilkenny City LEA. 

Fitzgerald polled 1,231 votes while McGuinness topped the poll at 1,420.

Speaking to Kilkenny Live, Cllr Fitzgerald said he was 'absolutely thrilled' at his re-election after serving as a local representative in Kilkenny since 2009.

"I have to thank all those who voted for me, all those who supported me, my wife, my family and the entire people of Kilkenny. It's been an honour to have been their representative over the years and to have that renewed on this occasion is particularly humbling."
