Two people are reportedly okay following a crash-landing involving a light aircraft in South Kilkenny.
The aircraft came down in a field at the back of the old creamery on Balklough, Carrigeen, Mooncoin. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, including Rescue 117.
The Atlantic Flight Training Academy (AFTA) has confirmed that a Cessna 172 was routing back on a routine training flight towards Waterford when the pilot experienced a rough-running engine. He informed Air Traffic Control in Waterford and advised that he had identified a suitable landing site in close proximity.
"The pilot positioned the aircraft for landing and carried out a precautionary landing in a suitable grass field, in accordance with standard operation procedures, north of Waterford Airport," a statement from the AFTA says. "There were no injuries to either the instructor or the student."
The pilot and passenger were given a lift back to the pilots base at Waterford Airport as a courtesy.
