Watch: Kilkenny restorer to feature on More4's Country House Auction

Lot with €20,000 estimate sells for €140,000 in episode one!

Renowned Kilkenny cabinetmaker and master restorer, Kieran Costelloe (pictured below with award winning cinematographer Edel O’Mahony) will feature in the latest Country House Auction series on More4.

The auction by Sheppard’s Irish Auction House, Durrow, was held in Castle Durrow. More than 1,200 items went under the gavel during a three-day auction held last autumn.

The first episode will be broadcast next Tuesday, August 13, at 9pm on More4 where viewers will see potential buyers arrive at the 18th-century castle, the nerve-racking bidding wars (online and over the phone as well as in person) for items including a solid-silver punch bowl, a rare Egyptian amulet, a John Constable sketch, Percy French paintings, a Carrara marble sculpted chimney piece and a stunning Tibetan meteorite iron phurba.

The phurba, which made €140,000 at hammer over an estimate of €20,000-€30,000, was the star of the auction and is highlighted in the opening episode.
