Ryan Tubridy teases 'some big news' as he takes break from Virgin Radio show

He's only been back on the airwaves since January, but already Ryan Tubridy has taken some time out.

The presenter was quick to explain away his absence though, ensuring listeners know it's only a temporary hiatus and he will be back- he just needs some time to work on a new project.

In an Instagram post, the former Late Late Show host told his followers that some news about a new podcast is due later this week.

Tubridy told fans "I am taking a few days off so I just wanted to let you know to keep an eye on all things Instagram next week, towards the end of the week to be precise.

"I've got some big news coming, podcast-wise. So until then, mind yourself, have a few days off and I'll talk to you next Thursday-Friday."

The podcast will apparently be for "book lovers", a topic Tubridy has always been passionate for, as the host had previously hinted about starting a podcast on all things literature.

The announcement comes after an admission from the presenter earlier this year that his new Virgin Radio UK gig was never part of his plan, according to a recent Evening Edition interview where he opened up about his career since leaving RTÉ.

“It’s a shock to the system. And it took a bit of guts,” he told The Evening Edition with Kait Borsay back in February.

“But I was ready for a big change. And London was the only game in town, in some ways. And even getting this job in Virgin – it (continuing to host The Late Late Show) wasn’t meant to be.

“And I’m not being all mystic and cosmic. It is strange how it all works out.”
