'The Secret of Killamery & Other Tales' by Vincent Murphy will be available for purchase at The Book Centre, Khan's Books and Bargain Books in Kilkenny
Author Vincent Murphy will be signing copies of his latest book, 'The Secret of Killamery & Other Tales' tomorrow (Wednesday, October 16) at 12pm in The Book Centre, High Street, Kilkenny City.
"My interest in the Celtic High Crosses of Ossary finally brought me to the ones at Killamery and Ahenny a few years ago," the author explained.
"Afterwards I started musing on the old monastic site at Killamery - founded by St Goban and with up to 1,000 monks at peak in the 8th and 9th centuries.

"I began to think: what if a monk had experienced inter-world travel in this multiverse of ours? How would his story be received by his fellow monks? Bit by bit the story formed and the novella 'The Secret of Killamery' emerged.
"Then there are the 6 short stories in the book which draw on legends (The Strange Case of Timmy O'Neill); reincarnation (The Kyiv War Museum); the idea of ancient knowledge providing a cure (Mikey); intelligence that the Germans were about to invade Ireland in the summer of 1940 (An Invasion Announced); finding a way around butter rationing during the Emergency (Butter); and the trauma of a man finding himself branded an informer when all he wanted to do was his civic duty (The Reluctant Informer).
"In all these stories I draw on my interest in various fields including history, astro-physics, reincarnation, myths and legends and more. All my stories are peppered with humour, wild imagination and an occasional dollop of mischief.
"I had great fun developing and writing these stories and I hope readers of all ages will find them gripping and entertaining."
Vincent Murphy is a native of Clonmel and living in Cork. A retired Chartered Engineer, his hobbies include writing, hill-walking, sailing, travel and photography.
The Book Centre, Khan's Books and Bargain Books have agreed to stock copies of 'The Secrets of Killamery & Other Tales'.
