The Irish National Opera (INO) is delighted to announce a ten-venue national tour of Strauss’s comedy opera Fledermaus including a performance at the Watergate Theatre on February 6.
Famous for his iconic waltz The Blue Danube, Fledermaus is undoubtable Johann Strauss’s most popular opera, renowned for its tunefulness, upbeat musicality and Viennese lilt. Opening in Siamsa Tíre, Tralee on Saturday 1 February, Fledermaus tours to Cork, Kilkenny, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Letterkenny, Navan, and Dundalk before closing with two performances on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February in the Pavilion Theatre Dún Laoghaire.
In a whirlwind of mistaken identities man-about-town Eisenstein, his wife Rosalinde, and their maid Adele all find themselves at Count Orlofsky’s masked ball. A night of night of flirtation, mischief and hilarity ensues. Irish National Opera’s new production showcases outstanding Irish vocal talent with sopranos Jade Phoenix and Sarah Shine as Rosalinde and Adele, and mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty as Prince Orlofsky. American tenor Alex McKissick sings Eisenstein and baritone Ben McAteer is Dr Falke.
The ensemble cast also includes soprano Megan O'Neill and tenors Aaron O'Hare and William Pearson.
Fledermaus is conducted by Richard Peirson and directed Davey Kelleher, with set design by Paul O'Mahony, costume design by Catherine Fay and lighting design by Sinead McKenna and choreography by Stephanie Dufresne.
Fledermaus is sung in English with English subtitles.
