Daithí Holohan
Tributes are being paid to Daithí Holohan who passed away unexpectedly at the weekend.
Daithí was a familiar face in Kilkenny, embedded in the cultural fabric of the city.
A renowned artist, Daithí was proud of his Kilkenny roots and will be remembered fondly not only for his vast collection of work but also his unique character, his trademark cap and his broad and bright smile.
In recent times Daithí had been planning to host a retrospective of his work at the Mayfair Library.
Daithí studied Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and later graduated from the University of Minnesota.
As a teenager, he became an apprentice goldsmith under Rudolf Heltzel. After a year, he left to spend time on the Aran Islands, learning Irish. When he returned to Kilkenny he attended the Kilkenny Vocational College and his impressive portfolio earned him a place in NCAD.
Daithí was the very proud father to his daughter, Shauna. He will be dearly missed by by his loving daughter and her mother Brigid, son-in-law David, his siblings Mary, Jim, Kathleen, Paddy, Johnny, Margaret and Martin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, friends and all who knew him.
Daithí was predeceased by his parents Edmond and Peig and just recently his brother Ned.
Daithí' s funeral Mass will take place on Saturday morning at 10.30am in St. John's Church.
