A man has been convicted at Kilkenny District Court for illegally foul hooking fish on the River Barrow at St Mullins.

Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) said the man was found to have foul hooked fish, a prohibited fishing practice where fish are deliberately hooked on parts of the body other than the mouth.

The court also heard that a vehicle was used in the commission of the offence.

Kilkenny District Court imposed a €600 fine and ordered the man to pay €750 in costs, bringing the total penalty to €1,350.
