Six nights of comedy at Coon Hall in Kilkenny

"Stop It Nurse” directed by Benny Mills will be performed in Coon Hall PICTURE: Harry Reid

A host of well-known local actors will take to the stage in a hilarious comedy which will run at Coon over five nights starting on January 31.

This hilarious three-act comedy, ‘Stop it Nurse’ by Sam McCree and directed by Benny Mills will take place in Coon Hall on January 31 and February 1,2, 7, 8 and 9 at 8pm nightly.

Bert Cooper (a man with marital issues and played by Martin Murphy) and Harold Smiley (a man with a weak bladder and played by Paddy Doheny) are in a hospital ward together when their peace is shattered as Sammy McCracken (an ardent Naomh Bríd supporter) and Martin Curran (an equally ardent Saint Martins supporter played by Tom Murphy) are admitted leading to much antagonism.

Add to this the caustic Sister (Ann Tunstead), the playful nurse Freda (Eimear Donohoe) and nurse (John Ryan), the eccentric spinster and hospital visitor Miss Cherry (Maria Purcell) and a few other highly entertaining characters such as the wrestler Mad McGurk (Brian Fitzpatrick), Bert’s wife Martha (Clare Ryan) and his bit on the side Dolores ( Jamie Holohan) and you have a recipe for laugh out loud madness and mayhem all in the setting of the hospital ward from hell!

Refreshments are served free of charge after the play each night. Donations and raffle proceeds will be made to various local charities and local community groups.

Admission is €10. There are no bookings so people are encouraged to come early to ensure they get a seat. Doors Open at 7 pm.

The Kilquan Players are a renowned amateur theatre group, based in North Kilkenny, who have been serving up high-quality drama to audiences for over thirty years.
