There is no Castlecomer AC athlete of the last four decades who has not met Margaret Dillon in the course of their juvenile years in the club. While for many Margaret was the multi-tasker who coached, what many may not have appreciated is that this was just one part of her input to athletics in Kilkenny.
Kilkenny Athletics County Board recognised this recently when inducting Margaret into its Hall of Fame with the following accolade.
Tipperary native Margaret (Lonergan) Dillon competed with Castlecomer AC as a senior athlete. She returned to athletics a few years after retirement when her children started to run with the same club. She then became coach and served on the club committee. In 2006 she was first elected to the county board. Since then, she has served as county secretary, track and field secretary and chairperson. Margaret has given an invaluable amount of time to the county board over the past 18 years and currently serves as track and field secretary.
