Kilkenny company prohibited from distributing fish products by Food Safety Authority

Lack of traceability

Closure order served on Longford café

A food distribution company in Kilkenny was issued with a distribution order by the Food Safety Authority, it has been revealed.

BD Trading, of Kiltorcan Business Park, Ballyhale, was issued with the order last month. It was lifted five days later.

According to the FSA the order was made following inspection by an authorised officer of the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA), under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act, 1998, and in
exercise of the powers conferred on them by Section 54 of the Act.

The inspector was of the opinion that, at the time, the activities (handling, processing, disposal, manufacturing, storage, distribution or selling of food) involved, or were likely to involve, a serious risk to public health.

The order was issued because "No traceability documentation was made available" for the products inspected at "in violation of traceability requirements established at Article 18 of the EU Regulation 178/2002."
