A popular shop on the Waterford-Kilkenny border in Ferrybank is set to shut its doors for the final time this weekend.

The Spar shop on Fountain Street in Ferrybank is set to close this Sunday, May 11.

"Unfortunately, the store has been experiencing a decline in profitability for some time, despite our best efforts, it is no longer sustainable," a spokesperson confirmed.

"On behalf of Aidan the proprietor, Sabrina and all of the staff, we would like to thank our loyal customers and suppliers from over the years.

The shop is popular with people living on both sides of the Kilkenny-Waterford border, and many took to social media to express their disappointment at the news, wishing the staff well.
