Kilkenny publicans and local representatives have continued to pay tribute to the late Eamonn Langton, hailing his lasting impact on the city’s hospitality industry and his legacy as a pioneering businessman.
“Eamonn was a champion of the pub trade and a man who set standards,” Chairperson of the Kilkenny Vintners Federation (VFI), Anthony Morrisson told Kilkenny Live.
“He broke boundaries and was highly motivated to be successful. He brought Kilkenny to the forefront of publicans with his invention, ideas and his concepts,” Mr Morrisson, who is the proprietor of Christy’s on Upper Patrick Street, said.
“Eamonn was always the first publican to do things that had to be done. He broke boundaries, he was a trailblazer. Eamonn Langton was always ahead of the trend.
“His name is known worldwide. There’s very few countries you go to where they don’t know Langton’s,. He created the brand (Langton’s), it just won’t come down. It’s there forevermore, ” he added.
Cathoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Joe Malone also expressed his sympathies following the news.
“Eamonn was a great man, he ran a great business here in Langton’s,” Mr Malone stated.
“Looking back, if you didn’t go to Langton’s you were missing out. Buses coming to Kilkenny every day would come in to Langton’s for food. He had the Marble City (cafe) too across the city. He was a great man and great employer,” the local councillor said in tribute.
“Eamonn was very generous, especially to his staff. It’s a lovely place to come, I’ve always liked it here and that will continue with Edward (Langton).”
