Tender documents have been issued for the Active Travel scheme on Bridge Street in Callan.
At a meeting earlier this year Callan Thomastown area councillors were told that it is likely the work will be carried out in phases to reduce disruption to the local community, for example first installing the pedestrian crossings then doing Upper and Lower Bridge Street in different phases.
The project is currently listed on etenders, with a closing date for submissions of May 5.
Bridge Street will be transformed into a shared space for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists under the Active Travel Scheme. Tenders have been invited for Bridge Street, Callan and on adjacent local roads, comprising re-surfacing, kerbing, signage and roadmarkings, drainage, services ducts, works for statutory undertakers and landscaping in Callan on Bridge Street, Flaggy Lane, Green Street, West Street and Keogh's Lane.
At the April meeting of Callan Thomastown municipal district councillors, Area Engineer Declan Murphy said once tenders are returned they will be assessed by consultants and formally sent to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for comments and approval.
