Fantastic turnout commended at cemetery mass in County Kilkenny

Just over a fortnight ago, one of the largest crowds in years turned out for the blessing of the graves and open-air Mass at Kilbride.

It was the first ‘normal’ year since Covid where many travelled from every corner of the country, as well as England, Wales and Scotland.

John Hennessy from the USA, Enda Hawe and family from New Zealand, Marie Mackey who arrived from Australia, were just some of those who came long distances. The earlier time of 7.30pm proved popular with all.

Callan and Kilkenny Gardai, assisted by stewards were busy directing traffic to the various carparks, as the N76, main Clonmel/Kilkenny Road is so busy.

Readers at the Mass were Adam Stanton, Coventry, Billy Keogh, Callan, Patrick Gibbs, Ahenure, Margaret Nolan, Knockreagh, Shay Jackman, Chapel Lane.

Father Willie Dalton and Sister Kate were congratulated on their Golden Jubilees.

The Calvary Monument looked splendid, recently refurbished by Molloys Sculptors.

Sound technician Pat Maher carried out a superb job on the public address system.

The names of those who passed away within the past 12 months were remembered and Father Willie thanked the Kilbride Cemetery Committee for organising and preparing the Mass.

A bucket collection was held after the mass and those who were unable to donate can do so at anytime by dropping it in to Joe Lyons or to any of the committee.
