Two stalwarts of the Fine Gael party in Kilkenny have been honoured for their lifetime service.
Family, friends and party colleagues of Louis Tyrell and former councillor Tommy Maher gathered for a surprise function in Keogh’s Lounge, in Callan, last week.
After a welcome from Cllr Joe Lyons, messages of good wishes were received from Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Michael Doyle, former and present councillors, Fr Willie Dalton PP, former Taoiseach, Enda Kenny sent a message, as he was unable to attend.
Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh gave an eloquent speech of her many years working with Tommy in the Council.
Presentations were made by former Minister and European Commissioner, Phil Hogan. Mr Hogan said he was delighted to honour Tommy and Louis with their lifetime membership, and thanked the Callan Fine Gael Branch for organising the tribute to both men.
