Callan bridge work could be delayed until next summer

Work to clear the eyes of the bridge in Callan, which was unable to go ahead last year, might be rescheduled. 

At the January meeting of Callan Thomastown Municipal District councillors a request that it be done ‘sooner rather than later’ was made by Cllr Joe Lyons.

Area Engineer Declan Murphy said the council still has the funding to do the work; it will come down to when workers can get in at the bridge.

Water levels in the King’s River have to be low enough to allow access, and, realistically, that will be summer time, Mr Murphy said.

Unfortunately when the work was to be done, last autumn, heavy rains caused high water levels in the river.
