Aperee Living in Callan
A protest is to be held in Callan tomorrow (Friday) by staff at a nursing home who that have been told all residents are being moved to other facilities, and the home closing.
Staff at the Aperee Living nursing home (formerly known as Strathmore Lodge nursing home) say they are looking for answers from the directors of Aperee Living (owners of the home) and the HSE, who stepped in to manage the home last November.
The staff are inviting the people of Callan, and surrounding areas, to support them outside the home tomorrow morning, from 11am.
Staff members are unhappy with the lack of information currently available to them concerning possible redundancy payments and are also calling for all efforts to be made to keep the home open and residents in Callan.
A statement from the HSE on Tuesday, which said the residents were being moved because it is "at a point where we can no longer safely provide care to residents in this facility." Staff have asked the HSE to clarify this as they say the word "unsafe" reflects badly on them. It has 'not gone down well with the community or staff' one staff member told KilkennyLive.
Employees of Aperee Living are calling for a director of the company to meet with them, face to face.
