Funding under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme has been approved for works on the King’s River in Callan.

Under the scheme, the Office of Public Works (OPW) has approved funding of €4,223 for a study which includes the assessment of silt mounds and ongoing issues with the current pumping arrangement which have to be future proofed following events in Callan in October 2022.

This funding is in addition to €18,000 approved by the OPW in 2022. Since 2009 16 funding applications by Kilkenny County Council have been supported under this scheme, across the county.
