There’s great activity underway in Callan as preparations get underway for the popular, annual summer plant sale.

Set to take place this weekend, there will be a host of activities to accompany the plant sale, celebrating the many groups and courses now vibrantly based in Westcourt Walled Garden.

Along with the busy allotments and the Community Supported Agriculture vegetable box scheme, this year people have been flocking to the walled garden for courses.

A ‘Sow and Grow’ course began earlier this year, to show how to plant and grow a summer flower container, meanwhile a vegetable growing course has also been taking place.

Keep an eye out for upcoming courses, open to everyone. As well as learning about herbaceous perennials in the context of the walled garden and vegetable growing there will be a printing course with lino cuts of Westcourt flowers, coming in June.

At this weekend’s plant sale there will be an artist-in-residence (try your hand at drawing ‘the tree within’) in the new learning Hive and on sale will be bags specially printed at Printblock Callan, as well as the coveted woven baskets by Renate.

Herb and vegetable plants, lovingly sown and grown by Westcourt Workability Nursery, will also be available to purchase.

Don’t forget you can also relax with tea, homebaked cake and live music on the walled garden lawn.

The Plant Sale is open from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday. All are welcome to Westcourt Walled Garden (Eircode: R95YK5Y).
