Cllr Coonan thanked the public for their generosity, stating; "For many in our community, the approach of Christmas can be a frighteningly difficult time.
"Struggling to put a meal on the table or being able to buy a small gift for a child is a harsh reality for far too many families and individuals across Kilkenny, particularly during these challenging financial times," he said, adding any contributions will have a "massive ripple effect."
Donations can be made by searching for the 'Go Fund Me Page' or directly by addressing to 'Mayor John Coonan', County Hall, John Street, Kilkenny.
