A man has been charged with murder following a death in Kilkenny last February.

Zbigniew Bednarczyk, 21 Meadow Way, Kilkenny, appeared before Kilkenny District Court this morning.

Detective Garda Brian Sheeran told the court he charged Mr Bednarczyk this morning.

In reply to the charge Mr Bednarczyk replied: “I did not kill him. It is crazy. The child was with me for 20 years. I couldn’t find a woman because I was always looking after my son. There is no woman who will be with a guy who has given everything to his son.” This was witnessed by Det Garda Sheeran and a Polish interpreter.

The matter was adjourned for the preparation of a book of evidence. Mr Bednarczyk has been remanded in custody to appear via video link at Kilkenny Court on June 22.

Previously, Mr Bednarczyk appeared before Carlow District Court, on March 2, charged under Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.  The existing charge before the court remains for the moment, State Solicitor Gerry Meaney told the court.

Rafal Bednarczyk Jacyna was found deceased by gardaí who attended at 21 Meadow Way on Monday, February 27.
