Error on Google Maps on N25 at Glenmore amid record number of speed camera fines for Kilkenny drivers

Kilkenny drivers are being made aware of an issue with outdated speed limit information on Google Maps regarding a section of the N25 near Glenmore in south Kilkenny.

This follows a concern raised by a local councillor about discrepancies between the speed limit on physical road signage and the speed limit displayed by Google Maps.

Cllr Fidelis Doherty raised the issue at the October meeting of the Piltown Municipal District.

She pointed out that although the speed limit on a section of the N25 at Glenmore has been reduced to 80km/h, it is still being displayed on Google Maps as 100km/h.

A decision was made at that meeting to have the issue passed onto the Road Design Section of Kilkenny County Council by the then Acting Director of Services, Ian Gardner.

However, the issue came up again at this week’s November meeting of the district when Cllr Doherty commented that this issue had not been corrected.

The newly appointed Director of Services, Tony Lauhoff, was briefed of the ongoing issue and assured members he would investigate.

In the meantime, drivers are advised to follow roadside signage.

This particular discrepancy comes at a time when there has been a huge level of speed enforcement on this section of the N25.

The fixed speed camera in this area of Glenmore has generated national headlines due to the number of fines issued since its installation.
