A prison sentence of four months has been handed down to a man convicted of obstructing a garda, under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Wayne McGrory, Good Shepherd Hostel, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Kilkenny District Court via video link.

The charge related to an offence which occurred at Hebron Road, Kilkenny, on July 13, 2022.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client had previously pleaded guilty and the matter had been adjourned for the preparation of a Probation Report, but as Mr McGrory was serving a custodial sentence this could not be carried out.

His client is doing reasonably well in prison and has signed up for drug treatment services, the solicitor added. He finds his time in prison challenging, however.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted the defendant and imposed a prison sentence of four months.
