Gardaí are at the scene of an incident at Kilcreene Hospital on the outskirts of Kilkenny City.
Local gardaí responded to an emergency call at 8.30am this morning which reported an alleged assault on a staff member between 8am and 8.15am.
It is understood that the assailant and the victim are not known to each other.
The member of staff was brought to St Luke's Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries, which are understood to be non life threatening.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact them at Kilkenny Garda Station on (056) 7775000.
