A man accused of being in possession of fake €50 notes has been charged before Kilkenny District Court.

Thomas O’Donoghue, 16 Lynch Park, Lucan, Dublin, is charged with three offences under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor said the allegation will be that Mr O’Donoghue was in possession of a counterfeit €50 note.
It will also be alleged that when Mr O’Donoghue’s car was searched 2,400 more counterfeit notes were discovered.

The sergeant said it will be alleged the notes were utilised in several shops around Kilkenny and Carlow in November, 2023.
Judge Geraldine Carthy accepted jurisdiction in the case and adjourned the matter to a court sitting in September to allow disclosure of files to solicitor Chris Hogan.
