Gardaí in Kilkenny are warning the public to be vigilant and to secure their oil tanks where possible following a spate of thefts in recent weeks.
The incidents have taken place at a number of locations across Kilkenny where opportunist criminals have gained access to the tanks and drained them.
"We are asking people to be wary, many people of very vulnerable to this kind of crime. If people can get smart monitors on their tanks then an alarm will activate if there is any suspicious activity. Otherwise if you can block access to your tank and make sure it is secure," said a garda spokesperson.
