Entering a building with the intent to commit an offence has resulted in a three month prison sentence for one man.

Bashir Midoun, Good Shepherd Hostel, Church Lane, entered the building in which he previously lived after his release from a previous jail term, Kilkenny District Court heard.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and a second charge of being intoxicated in public.

Evidence was heard that on April 24 last Mr Midoun entered the building. A witness called gardaí to report a man had gained access to the premises through a window. He later left through the same window after the arrival of gardaí.
The window was damaged.

The second charge related to an offence on April 14, 2025. At 11.50pm gardaí received a call to say a man was lying on the ground on Kieran Street. Mr Midoun was arrested because of his level of intoxication, for his own safety.

There were 28 previous convictions recorded against the defendant.

Solicitor Chris Hogan said the property his client entered was where he had lived for 13 years. Mr Midoun had served a prison sentence and on his release was sleeping rough. He went back to his former home, where nobody was living.
Minor damage was caused to the window frame, Mr Hogan said.

Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Midoun on the trespass charge and imposed a three month prison sentence.
Other charges were taken into consideration.
