Taking a Giant bicycle has resulted in two months imprisonment for one man.
Michael Phelan, Good Shepherd Hostel, Church Lane, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge of being in possession of stolen property at the district court.
Sergeant Morgan O’Connor said gardaí received a report of a Giant brand bicycle being taken on February 13 last. It had been taken from a yard in Greenshill.

Mr Phelan was seen on CCTV cycling into the Good Shepherd. He admitted taking the bicycle.
The sergeant said Mr Phelan had been intoxicated and couldn’t remember where he got the bike.
It was returned to its owner.
There were 22 previous convictions recorded against Mr Phelan.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client had a background of addiction. On this occasion he couldn’t remember taking the bike. He did make full admissions when the details were put to him by gardaí.
Judge Geraldine Carthy convicted Mr Phelan and imposed the two month sentence.
