A man who admitted he was “stupid to have this stuff in the house” has entered a guilty plea to the unauthorised possession of a stun gun and drug possession charges.
Chris Doyle, 16 Tyndall Avenue, Leighlinbridge, appeared before Kilkenny District Court.
Sergeant Morgan O’Connor said that on January 5, 2023, gardaí searched a premises on Main Street, Gowran. They discovered a small quantity of drugs, a weighing scales, a tick list and a quantity of cash.
Also found in the premises was a stun gun.
Mr Doyle was arrested and interviewed.
On February 2, 2024, gardaí went to an address in Carlow and discovered a package of drugs that Mr Doyle admitted was for his own personal use.
He had five previous convictions.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said his client had asked him to apologise to the court. Mr Doyle had been addicted to cannabis.
The solicitor explained, his client’s aunt was murdered when he was in secondary school. He left school after that and became addicted.
The stun gun was kept in his home, the solicitor said. Mr Doyle knew it was illegal to have one on the street but not in his home.
My Hogan said his client is in a relationship and has a young child. They are moving to his partner’s father’s farm.
When interviewed by gardaí Mr Doyle admitted he was “stupid to have this stuff in the house.”
He attended rehab after this incident.
Judge Geraldine Carthy asked for a pre-sentencing Probation Report to be prepared in the case and adjourned matters to a court sitting in October to allow this.
