A man convicted of a ‘crime spree’ has been given a jail sentence at Kilkenny District Court.
Virgil Valea, 18 Pollerton Road, Carlow, was convicted of taking bottles of wine from a shop, as well as other theft offences.
Inspector Alma Molloy said that on April 10, 2025, Mr Valea entered O’Brien’s Fine Wines in Carlow. He placed three bottles of wine in his backpack then left without paying.
The wine was valued at €43.13.In interview with gardaí, later, he made admissions.

On three separate occasions Mr Valea entered Eurogiant, put items in his backpack, and left without paying. This occurred on May 12, 13 and 14, 2025. In total the items were valued at €159.
He was arrested on May 31 and taken to Carlow Garda Station.
Inspector Molloy said Mr Valea had three previous convictions for theft, as well as other matters.
Solicitor for Mr Valea, said ‘drink gets the better of’ his client every now and again.
Judge William Aylmer said the incidents had qualified as “a spree of stealing.”
Mr Valea was convicted on all charges. On one of the theft convictions the judge imposed a sentence of two weeks in prison.
