Woman charged in Kilkenny with 49 offences - including deception and money laundering

A woman has appeared before Kilkenny District Court charged with 49 financial offences.

The charges include 16 counts of deception contrary to the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) 2001, 16 counts of using a false instrument contrary to the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) 2001, 16 counts of making a false instrument contrary to the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) 2001, and one count of money laundering contrary to the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act) 2010.

All charges relate to dates between 2017 and 2022.

Before the court was Gemma McGuigan. Following an application by her solicitor, Ed Hughes, Judge William Aylmer ordered her address not to be published, for Ms McGuigan’s own safety.

Inspector Alma Molloy said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed prosecution on indictment. The matter was adjourned to a court in September to allow a book of evidence to be prepared.
