Shouting aggressively at a garda and calling names has resulted in one woman being told to make a large charity donation by Kilkenny District Court.
On May 2, 2025, at 10.20pm, gardaí received a report of a highly intoxicated female at James Street, Kilkenny.
Gardaí went to the scene and met Eva Montgomery, 35 Beechfield Meadows, Clonee, Dublin.
Gardaí were unable to calm Ms Montgomery. She was shouting aggressively at the gardaí and name calling. She was arrested and brought to the garda station.
Ms Montgomery was charged with committing a public order offence — using threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.
Solicitor Tertius van Eeden said his client is 42 and was going through a difficult time. She has no previous convictions.
Ms Montgomery did not recall the verbal altercation with the gardaí.
Mr van Eeden said his client was prepared to offer a donation of €1,500 to a charity.
Judge Carthy told Ms Montgomery to double the sum offered to €3,000 and make a donation to the court poor box.
The matter was adjourned by Judge Carthy to a court sitting in Kilkenny on September 9 to allow this to be carried out.
