Threat to kill Kilkenny publican - Man appears in court

Conviction - Compensation of €3,000 and suspended prison sentence

The assault for which Mr O’Loughlin was charged is “an isolated incident,” the solicitor said.

His client is “extremely regretful and remorseful for his actions,” Mr Finucane told the court.

A victim impact statement was handed in to court.

At the recent court sitting, Mr Finucane said his client had brought €3,000 to court to offer as a charitable donation.
Probation report

Mr O’Loughlin has ‘no desire to appear in court again,’ the solicitor said, as he has his father and brother who depend on him.
He said the Probation Report was positive and his client regretted his actions.

Judge Geraldine Carthy agreed it was a positive Probation Report.
She had also read the victim impact report.

The seriousness of the situation and what occurred were aggravating factors in the case.
The judge said that while she appreciated Mr O’Loughlin had ‘no intention’ of carrying out the threats he made that could not have been known by the injured party.
