Gardaí have taken to social media to thank members of the public for their selfless actions last night in Kilkenny City.
"Kilkenny RPU were on patrol in the city last night after completing a checkpoint when they were flagged down by a member of the public," a garda spokesperson said.

"The person explained that she and her partner had witnessed an assault a short distance away and pointed out the suspect.
"Her partner meanwhile had headed for the station with two individuals who had allegedly been struck by the suspect.

"Gardaí arrested an intoxicated male at scene and after statements were taken, the suspect was charged to appear before Kilkenny District Court and is facing two charges of assault and two public order charges.
"The couple who were simply on a night out made it their business to ensure that victims of crime were looked after and helped and that the person unknown to either of the victims who had targeted them was identified to us. BRAVO."
