There is widespread delight in a North Kilkenny community following news that a new garda has been assigned to Freshford.
Garda Cian O’Connor will take up his new post in the village on Monday, February 16, replacing Noel Casey who provided 'tremendous service' in the area over the past four years.
Local councillor in the area, Cllr Michael McCarthy has welcomed the new appointment, stating, he is delighted that a new garda has been assigned to Freshford.
Cllr McCarthy thanked Garda Casey who was an 'outstanding community garda' who gave 'tremendous service' to the village and surrounding areas over the last four years.

"He epitomised the importance of community policing and succeeded in improving safety in the village through reaching out to local organisations in a collaborative approach. We wish him all the best in his future career," Cllr McCarthy commented.
"Garda O’Connor will be very welcome in the area and we look forward to his arrival.
"I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Superintendent Sean O’Meara for his role in the appointment," he added.
