Prison sentence for ‘snatch and grab' theft in Kilkenny

A three-month prison sentence was imposed on a defendant who admitted a ‘snatch and grab’ theft in a retail premises in Kilkenny City.

Michael Faulkner, Spring Lane Halting Site, Ballyvolane Road, Blackpool, Cork admitted the offence at Rose Inn Street on March 7.

At 11.50pm on the date in question there was a person in the store who was there to make a purchase.

The injured party had a quantity of cash on him when the defendant grabbed the money and tried to run before being stopped by bouncers from a nearby pub.

Sergeant Morgan O’Connor described it as ‘a snatch and grab’ incident.

The defendant has 120 previous convictions for public order offences and theft.

The defendant told the court that he had consumed a bottle of whiskey on the night in question and was ‘remorseful’.
